Since the age of 10, I loved playing football manager. This year, inspired by popular youtuber Work the Space youtube channel, I’ve started a tier 10 save with Deportivo Galicia London, and reimagined their club logo.

Introducing Deportivo Galicia London

FC Deportivo Galicia London emblem

FC Deportivo Galicia London is a football club based in London, England. They are currently members of the Combined Counties League Division One.

The founding and birth of FC Deportivo Galicia in London came about due to a shared understanding and sentiment by a group of Galician migrants who came to the United Kingdom in the 60s.

During the 60’s it was west London that saw the majority of Galician migrants settle down and it was in 1968 that a small group of those migrants saw an opportunity, through football, to help each other and somehow share the longing they felt for Spain.

Market Research

Taking into account their heritage it was important to take a look at other spanish club emblems to see what can often be consistent compponents.

These include:

  • Stripes, often the colour relates to the club colours
  • Crowns
  • Classic footballs
  • Shields and circular badges

The new design

The redesigned DGL emblem against the old

The re-imagining of their emblem brings together their strong typeface, club colours and also components such as the classic football and old club crest shape next to the year they were formed, while introducing new characteristics.

The new empress brown colour partners magnificently with the summer sky blue to give the crest a new classic and regal feel.

Introducing part of the Great Britain flag, like seen on the back of their shirts, allows the emblem to convey their foundation in the UK.

Bringing all the components together into a circular design means the emblem is stronger for it, with each part of the design keeping a consistent size relationship. Due to how tall the old emblem was to it’s width, some of the components became lost at small scales.

Update

For those that stumble upon this from a football manager perspective, here are the files you’d need to put in the game (you may need to rename them as appropriate).
